Analyzes dust from the home for the presence of harmful chemicals evaporating from consumer products, textiles, furniture, etc. Does not capture chemicals in food and drinks. Focus is both on chemicals that are quickly reduced and chemicals that accumulate in the body.
Ideal for: Families with small children. Relevant for all.
Tests for: Endocrine disrupting and neurotoxic chemicals present in your home – evaporated from furniture, textiles, electronics and other products in the home: Phthalates, Bisphenol A, PCBs, and Flame-retardants measured in house dust. Click on the specific chemical group to learn more about the specific analytes measured.
Sample required: Dust sample collected at your home
What will the test show: How much these chemicals pollute your home. Chemicals in the dust can enter the body through inhalation or oral uptake. Dust is therefore a source for chemical exposure for all members of the family but especially for small children. Small children absorb a higher amount of chemicals through dust since they typically move and play at the floor. Also, small children have a tendency to mouth objects and fingers, which increases their oral exposure to dust.
Why test: Endocrine disrupting and neurotoxic chemicals are suspected of causing irreversible damage to humans, with fetuses and children being the most vulnerable as they are undergoing critical stages in the development of their brains, nervous systems, immune systems, genitals and other organs. Many scientists believe that regulation of these substances is insufficient. When you get transparency to your own exposure you can make better informed choices to reduce your exposure.
How does it work: When your order is confirmed we will send you instructions on how to collect the dust. You basically need an empty vacuum bag and 7 days of not vacuuming. You can choose to collect dust from one or more rooms in the home. We advice you to select the rooms you spend the most time in such as the bedroom and living room.
